Having always been driven to excel, my firm belief was that hard work will get me everywhere I needed to go. As I gather years of experience however, I have come to find that hard work alone isn't enough. It takes a team to accomplish the bigger goals in life and a team is much more than just a collection of people. 


A team that performs at the highest level is a team driven by example who has complete faith in the leader of that team. To gain faith requires trust. To gain trust requires honesty, transparency and a belief based on experience that the leader has the best interest of the team and team members as the primary driving force.


A team that operates at the highest level is a team that has clear, concise, well-defined and understandable goals. It is a team that is working in one direction as a cohesive unit with a pre-defined method of attacking problems and resolving conflict. It is a team that is allowed to innovate and is given the capacity to grow beyond pre-conceived boundaries. 


If there is anything I have learned, it is that there is no limit to what people can achieve when obstacles are removed from the equation. Finally, a good leader leads and a great leader serves, but every true leader has a mission.
